When Black Eyed Peas mainman Will.i.am decided to remix “I Got it From My Momma,” the first single off his just-released solo album, with a big, chunky sample of Daft Punk’s “Around the World,” he must of figured the Frenchies would be honored and more than willing to take the royalty money and run. He was so certain, in fact, that he shot an entire video for the remix, replete with Tron-inspired graphics that look oddly similar to Daft Punk’s own awe-inspiring encore outfits from this summer’s Alive 2007 tour. Apparently though, Will.i.am moved faster than the lawyers, who were forced to deliver the message that Daft Punk doesn’t think their music sounds better with him.

Someone sent us the video this morning, and all we can say is: long live the robots."

"Soul" party in Charlotte, N.C

I got play in Charlotte, N.C last Saturday. I didn't really know what to expect but it turned out to be a great party in a warehouse/artist studio space 10 minutes from downtown Charlotte. Andy and Jamie who are in the process of opening a deep house lounge called "SOUL"; invited a few hundred of their friends to preview the concept of the lounge. Open bar, good sound system and a crowd genuinely excited to listen to some good soulful sounds.

Party People ALERT!

My friends! I have some good news. Starting tonite, Eric - Stephane - Henri are taking over the brand new lounge next to the Rivington Hotel and i will be playing there tonight (Thur) and Tomorrow (Fri). I'm heading down there in a few to do sound check . The place has no name yet but expect the music, people, sound and service to be PROPER!!!!!!!

Ikon After Party

Last night was the launch of the IKON exhibition at Storefront in Nolita. The turnout was impressive. Lots of Danish and downtown heads. Funny contrast with the San Ganerro fest happening a block away. I didn't take pics of the opening but the place got packed really fast and 2 thirds of the crowd was outside drinking and talking.
We headed to LABEL Lounge for the after party . Label is Nick Valencia's new lounge in the L.E.S. Go check it out, it's a very nice cozy spot and it's officially opening this weekend (174 rivington between clinton and attorney).
DJ NOIZE started the night, playing some good old hip hop, soul and breaks. This Danish dj is a former DMC champion. Big respect to him and his skills. check a video i found on youtube.
After Noize, i played a nice little disco set and by 11:30 everybody was pretty much Drunk :-)

That's what you see when your stuck in the toilets of APT and the door won't open. Well it was late. We were all hanging out at the club for Sarah's and Alex after wedding party..Listening to Laurent Garnier playing Soul, Latin and Funk!!!!
Anyway got stuck in the restrooms for a good 15 minutes....So while i was waiting for someone to get me out of there, i took pics :-)

Before the boat party, classy dinner at the Russian Tea Room. My first time there. Great looking room! And unforgettable toast by Alex's dad. He gave the speech in English, French and Japanese!
Then in between the main course and dessert, we got an amazing performance from Dani Siciliano (Herbert) and Danny Wang!

Last Friday, out on a beautiful boat around Manhattan, 200 people dancing on DJ Nori (Tokyo) & Maurice Fulton's music for Alex and Sarah's wedding. I wish i got married that night ;) Beautiful wedding.

IKON is a showcase/exhibition of 5 Danish design brands (click here for more info).
My friend Jonas Hartz put this show together. His company Hz
is an impressive art/lifestyle/design "idea factory" based in Copenhagen.
Go check it out if you have a minute, also don't miss on Sept 21st Storefront's 25th Anniversary. It will feature a crazy dome structure (check the pic #1) right in the square by la Esquina and Storefront.

Y3 Fashion Show below the Highline

Last Saturday afternoon i went to the Y3 show on 22nd street. I rarely go to shows but i was excited to check the clothes and specially the production. Y3 always pulls it off and they did it again.
location: The runway was below the Highline. Pretty cool spot to do it.
theme: rain/thunderstorm>fake rain machines and great sound design of water dripping and thunders echoing in that huge industrial structure.
